Frequently Asked Questions About Enterprise Architecture  Taining Courses and Practice

TOGAF® stands for The Open Group Architecture Framework –
It is the industry-standard methodology and framework for performing EA work and is used by thousands of Enterprise Architects and consultants across the world. Hundreds of organizations across the world use TOGAF® process for their EA work and to improve their business-IT alignment.

TOGAF® certification is the formal certification for your knowledge of TOGAF®. The TOGAF® certificate is a validation of your knowledge and comprehension of TOGAF® and also your ability to analyze and apply TOGAF® in real life situations. It provides a qualification which is a demonstration of your detailed knowledge of TOGAF® and EA. It formally recognizes your skills in TOGAF® and EA.

TOGAF® certification is provided by The Open Group which is headquartered in the U.K.

There are two levels
· TOGAF® 9 Level 1 (called Foundation certification)
· TOGAF® 9 Level 2 (called Certified certification)
TOGAF® 9 Level 1 is only for those folks who need an overall awareness of TOGAF® 9.2.
TOGAF® 9 Level 2 is for everyone who wants a detailed understanding of TOGAF® 9.2.
For architects and consultants Level 1 is not enough, they need to get certified at Level 2 because level 2 certification provides validation that in addition to knowledge and comprehension, the candidate is able to analyze and apply knowledge of TOGAF® 9.

You will need to appear for the TOGAF® 9 certification exam which is directly conducted by The Open Group at any PEARSON VUE  test center across the world and pass this exam to get certified.

Passing in this exam is mandatory for TOGAF® 9 certification.

There are two separate exams, one each corresponding to each certification level.

  • TOGAF® 9 Part 1 certification exam for getting certified at Level 1
  • TOGAF® 9 Part 2 certification exam for getting certified at Level 2

The procedure for TOGAF® 9 certification is:

  • Either you do Self-study of TOGAF® 9.2
  • Or, you attend the fully accredited TOGAF® 9.2 training program that covers both the levels of TOGAF® 9 certification which are level 1 and level 2.

After one of the above,

  • You will need to appear for the TOGAF® 9 certification exam conducted by The Open Group at any PEARSON VUE test center in across the world. If you have attended the training then you have to appear for the exam within one year of the course date.
  • You will be provided with the exam voucher for this TOGAF® 9 combined part 1 and part 2 certification exam by us after completing the course. This voucher will be valid for one year from the course date.
  • You need to pass both these exams (part 1 and part 2). Once you pass this exam, you will be certified by The Open Group as TOGAF® 9 certified.

Our course addresses the TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1
and 2 exam which enables you to get certified at the level 2 itself (TOGAF® 9 certified).
We normally do not conduct a course only for the Level 1 certification (i.e. Foundation ) unless we get specific request from corporate for corporate programs typically for senior managers who need an overall awareness of TOGAF®.
Our course addresses the TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and 2 exam which enables you to get certified at the level 2 itself (TOGAF® 9 certified).

The exam fee for the TOGAF® 9 Combined Part 1 and 2 exam is USD 495. We provide the participant with the TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and 2 exam Prometric voucher which will allow the participant to take both the exams in one sitting at Prometric test centre around the world. The exam fee would be included in our course fee. Using this voucher, you cannot write separately, i.e. you cannot write the foundation exam first, and later write level 2 within one year before voucher expires.

If a candidate wishes to take the certifications at two levels separately, that is, first appearing for the part 1 exam and later after some period appearing for the part 2 exam, then the exam fee for each part will be USD 320. So that will make it USD 640 for both the part 1 and part 2 exam.

Just to clarify, TOGAF® 9 Level 1 is only for those folks who need an overall awareness of TOGAF® 9.2. For architects and consultants this is not enough, they need to get certified at Level 2 because level 2 certification provides validation that in addition to knowledge and comprehension, the candidate is able to analyze and apply knowledge of TOGAF® 9. Professionals like you need Level 2 certification.
Also, as per our view and experience, when you prepare for and take the part 1 exam, you are ready for part 2 exam as well – there is no separate preparation for part 2 as such – you need to go through the TOGAF® 9.2 documentation anyway. Also, you save USD 155 by going for the combined part 1 and part 2 exam. So, it is advantageous to go for the combined part 1 and part 2 exambecause of the above reasons and I am sure you would want to go for the same.
Therefore, I strongly recommend that you go for the TOGAF® 9 training covering both level 1 and level 2.

The latest version of the TOGAF® documentation is TOGAF® 9.2 documentation – you have to learn this for the TOGAF® 9 certification. We have been and we will be teaching the latest version of TOGAF® which is TOGAF® 9.2, in our course. That means, we will be teaching the specifications (documentation) of TOGAF® 9.2. Our course has been accredited for TOGAF® 9.2.

However, the latest certification remains as TOGAF® 9 Foundation and TOGAF® 9 Certified. There is no TOGAF® 9.1 certification. The exam is called TOGAF® 9 certification exam.

TOGAF® 9.2 is a minor version and only a maintenance version of TOGAF® 9. What has changed is some minor changes and corrections to the TOGAF® 9 documentation (specifications). TOGAF® 9.2 documentation is a super set of TOGAF® 9.
The certification is and will still continue to be called TOGAF® 9 certification.

There are two exams, one each corresponding to each level of TOGAF® 9. The part 1 exam is for TOGAF® 9 Foundation (i.e. TOGAF® 9 Level 1) and the part 2 exam is for TOGAF® 9 certified (i.e. TOGAF® 9 Level 2). You need to clear both the part 1 and part 2 exams to get TOGAF® 9 certified.

Both exams are objective-type and you just need to select the right answer using a radio button on the screen.

The duration for part 1 exam is one hour and it will consist of 40 objective-type questions in multiple choice format. The candidate needs to select one option and only one option from the choices given. The pass mark required is 55% for this exam.

The duration for part 2 exam is one hour and 30 minutes and it will consist of 8 questions, each of these questions will be based on a scenario and the candidate needs to select the best option from the 4 choices given. The pass mark required is 60 % for this exam.

Both these exams can be taken at Prometric test centres around the world based on the time scheduled by the candidate using the Prometric exam voucher. Each exam part’s voucher individually costs USD 320.

The exam fee for the TOGAF® 9 Combined Part 1 and 2 exam is USD 495. We provide the participant with the TOGAF 9 Combined Part 1 and 2 exam Prometric voucher which will allow the participant to take both the exams in one sitting at Prometric test center around the world.

Since the Pearson Vue exam voucher that we give you is valid for one year from the course date, you can, technically, go for the exam anytime within one year. But, to maximize your chances of success in the exam, we strongly recommend that you go for the exam within 2 weeks after the course, of course you have to read the material before going for the exam. That is when, human memory is fresh and active. Worst case, please go for the exam within 1 month. The more you postpone, the more the human brain tends to forget and the chance of success reduces.

We will do everything we can to run the courses as scheduled. However, we will be able to confirm each course only a week prior to the scheduled course start date – this is due to the requirement of minimum number of participants to run it viably.

Based on the confirmed registrations we receive as of the cut-off date, we need to decide to run the course and plan and finalize all the logistics for the course.

Thanks for your understanding.
